We tried watercolors for the first time last week. It's really hard to explain painting to a toddler. Dip the brush in the water, then the paint, then put it on the paper. Right! It was more like dip it in the water, dip it in 5 or 6 colors, put it back in the water, try to drink the water, put your fingers in the paints, put them on Mama's pants. I kept explaining that these were watercolors and we used our brush not our fingers, but told her there were fingerpaints. So yesterday on our trip to Target we bought some fingerpaints. Lola couldn't wait to wake up from her nap and try them out. She seemed to like squeezing them out on the paper much better than painting. I just keep reminding myself there are no rights and wrongs when you're making art. It's all about enjoying the process, and boy does Lola love it. She was covered in paint from head to toe.
